Joe Cooper Ford of Shawnee

Is it time for you to upgrade your ride this summer? We sure hope so because we’re excited to help you get behind the wheel of a brand new Ford right here at Joe Cooper Ford Shawnee! But first, we want to provide you with a few test driving tips that will help you get the most out of that test drive this summer. Take some time to check out those tips below, schedule your test drive, or stop in to see our team! We look forward to working with you and we wish you all the best!

Call Ahead – it’s a great idea to call ahead to either schedule a test drive with our team or to ensure that the vehicle you were hoping to test drive is still available at the dealership.

Before You Drive –  before heading out for the test drive, take a few minutes to go over the features on the inside and check out the interior cabin. Having a list of features you were hoping for as a checklist can help greatly here. Take a look under the hood, in the trunk, the backseat – can you picture yourself in this vehicle? The available features are important to understand before moving further in the test drive.

Drive Your Normal Route – most often, people don’t test drive the vehicle on their current route or roads they travel most often. This is important because it can help you get a feel for how the vehicle will perform on your most traveled routes. Be sure to test the brakes and accelerate gently up to speed a few times to test the driveline. We’re testing how the vehicle shifts. Does it feel smooth and natural?

Around The Tires – once you arrive back, be sure to spend some time look at the tires and wheels that are currently on the vehicle. Are the inner and outer sidewalls smooth and free of any damage, scuffed or ripped? Do the tires have good tread or what’s their rating?

Happy August! Things are heating up this month and it’s time to slip behind the wheel of a brand new Ford and cool off a little bit! Are you hitting the road with the kiddos this summer? Well, before you hit the road there are a few minor details we want to go over to ensure that you and the family have a great, safe, and fun experience for all the miles to come! Below you will find a few tips to help you along the way. Put them to good use, let us know if we forgot any tips that you’ve come up with on your own, and of course, come see our team if your vehicle is in need of service! You don’t want any breakdowns along the way, so schedule your appointment online today!

Always pack light. While packing for children might seem like you need a lot of gear, only take the necessities. This will help keep clutter to a minimum and you won’t be stressed trying to manage a bunch of different bags when you’re packing and unpacking.

Keep snacks on deck. Like you, your children will get hungry during the trip, always keep snacks ready and accessible when needed. It’s also important to keep everyone hydrated but don’t overdo it. This will lead to a lot of unnecessary pit stops.

Keep the car ride simple. Pack games or coloring books to keep the kiddos entertained for the car ride. This will help keep you from going crazy when they ask ‘are we there yet’ for the millionth time! If your vehicle has entertainment systems, be sure to use them!

Take kid-friendly pit stops when on the road. Kids usually get a lot of built-up energy when in the car. So make enough stops to wear off that energy and places your kids can stay calm without stressful, rushed situations.

Research your destination. While you might not think this is important, it is. You’ll want to know if the places you’re planning to visit are kid-friendly and fun. Also, will you be needing a car seat or stroller? It’s important to know these things ahead of time.

Always leave extra time. This might be the best tip we have to give. Always always always give yourself extra time in case things go awry and you need to handle a stressful situation.

From the mountains to the lakes, to the beach to the campsite, there’s plenty of ways to spend your summer. And one thing that is for sure, is that you’re going to be spending some time behind the wheel of your Ford. This means it’s important to service your vehicle to ensure that there are no breakdowns along the way! Below are five services to help you narrow down your summer service on your vehicle. Get those details below and if you’re ready to stop in for service, schedule an appointment online today! We look forward to working with you, see you soon!

Check your coolant system

  • When temperatures are rising, it’s important to keep cool. Ourselves and our vehicles. In addition to checking up on the coolant fluid levels, it’s important to check the state of the hoses and the coolant reservoir. Any leaks should be addressed as soon as possible. And hoses should be firm.

Air Filters

  • Winter is known for clogging your windshield-washer nozzle and your car’s air filters. So, when summer hits, it’s important to make sure these areas are clean and ready to go. Sometimes you can change filters yourself but if you’re not sure, ask a technician!

Windshield wipers

  • While it is summer, it is bound to rain at a point to help cool things off. That means you need a good set of wipers that will keep excess water off your windshield and your vision clear. A good habit to start is checking on your wipers every time you stop for gas or change them every oil change.

Tires

  • While you should be checking your tires year-round, summer is a great time to ensure that tire pressure levels are correct and you still have a good amount of tread still. Summer is the season of road trips, so it’s important to keep up to date with your tires. Plus, be sure to check up on your spare tire as well.

Engine belts

  • Over time your engine belt can become loose, deteriorate, and start to squeal. It’s important to have your engine belt checked to ensure there are no cracks, missing pieces, and that there is the right amount of tension.

Things are heating up right here at Joe Cooper Ford of Shawnee. With that comes warmer temperatures inside your vehicle. And you’re probably wondering how we can regulate those summer temperatures. This week’s blog is dedicated to that. We hope you’ll take these tips, put them to good use, and when you’re ready to upgrade your ride, you know where to find us! Plus, when you stop in, you’ll have the opportunity to cool off in the air conditioning while we talk options!

Park in a garage, if/ when possible.

  • If it’s possible, park your vehicle in a garage. This will keep your vehicle out of direct sunlight and you will benefit from the near-constant shade. Even a warm garage beats a vehicle parked in the sun baking in the sun.

Keep your windows cracked.

  • While it’s not a good idea to leave your windows all the way open, we recommend leaving your windows slightly cracked when you exit when temperatures are high. Even a crack will promote ventilation and can help keep your vehicle cool.

Invest in a solar-powered fan.

  • Paired with cracked windows, a solar-powered fan can make your car feel cooler even on the hottest of summer days. These fans work to remove hot air from your car by creating constant air circulation, these fans lower your car’s overall temperature.

Place blankets over your seats.

  • If your vehicle has either leather or vinyl seating, you know just how hot these materials can get when exposed to sunlight and/ or increased temperatures. In order to keep your seats cool. Try placing a blanket or towel over them when you exit your vehicle. When you return, remove the blanket or towel. This will keep you from burning your legs on the hot seats.

Leave your doors open before getting in.

  • Before hopping into your vehicle, consider leaving your doors open for a few moments to allow the hot air to exit the vehicle. This can help regulate the temperature before you enter and take off to your next adventure.

Are you gearing up for the hot summer sun? Perhaps you’re already planning your adventures out in the sun. And if that’s the case, this week’s blog comes at the right time! We’re excited to talk to you about sun protection tips. Yes, we know you probably know all these tips but we want to spend some time refreshing on how to keep you and your family protected and safe when you’re out in the hot summer sun! So take a look at those tips below and if you’re ready to upgrade into a brand new Ford, you know where to find us! There are plenty of great deals and offers happening at Joe Cooper Ford Shawnee and it’s a great time to slip behind the wheel of something newer! We hope to see you soon!

Top 10 Tips for Sun Protection:

  • Choose a sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB radiation
  • Reapply your sunscreen every two hours, every hour if you’re swimming or sweating

  • Limit your sun exposure times during 10 AM and 4 PM
  • If possible, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants if you’re worried about extreme sunburns
