Joe Cooper Ford of Shawnee

Have you been ready to celebrate the Halloween season all month long?! So have we and it’s finally the weekend to do so. But before we head out onto the hunt for candy and frightful events, we want to share some helpful information to ensure that you and your family stay safe and healthy this holiday! Things are definitely looking a little different this year but we have you covered when it comes to being smart! Check out those tips for you below and if you’re in need of more information, we encourage you to browse the CDC’s website for more helpful tips and information!

Make trick-or-treating safer

  • Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
  • Give out treats outdoors, if possible.
  • Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take.
  • Wash hands before handling treats.
  • Wear a mask.

Wear a mask

  • Make your cloth mask part of your costume.
  • A costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask.
  • Do NOT wear a costume mask over a cloth mask. It can make breathing more difficult.
  • Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing

Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you

  • Indoors and outdoors, you are more likely to get or spread COVID-19 when you are in close contact with others for a long time.

Wash your hands

  • Bring hand sanitizer with you and use it after touching objects or other people.
  • Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Parents: supervise young children using hand sanitizer.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when you get home and before you eat any treats.

So, now you have your Halloween health tips, how about a Halloween upgrade? Hurry on down to see the team right here at Joe Cooper Ford Shawnee and let our team help you upgrade into a brand new Ford this Halloween week! We have plenty of spooky deals waiting for you. Hurry in today!

*Advice from the CDC.

You’ve got them. We’ve got them. Everyone has some bad driving habits. But that’s something we’re discussing this week to ensure that you break those habits and get back to being safe behind the wheel. Get those details below and stop on by to see our team to take a test drive and let’s upgrade you into a brand new Ford this October! We hope to see you soon!

Using your cellphone while behind the wheel.

  • We know it might be difficult to ignore your phone when you’re behind the wheel, but it’s essential to your safety that you keep your eyes on the road ahead. Distracted driving has become an increasingly important issue, more states have cracked down on the usage of a mobile device when driving.

Driving with headphones on

  • Listening to music coming through your vehicle’s radio can be distracting enough. Now add headphones to your ears. This is shutting out important vehicle and road noises that may be key indicators something is wrong.

Changing lanes without signaling

  • Whether you’re in heavy traffic or not – it’s important to signal when you’re turning or changing lanes. Drivers need to know your intentions. Don’t be lazy, turn your blinker on and be a good driver.

Speeding

  • We get it, you’re running late and traffic isn’t heavy – it’s easy to step on it a little bit. But did you know that in 2015, IIHS reported 27% of crash fatalities were related to speed. In short, slow down and get there safe.

Tailgating

  • Following a vehicle too close while not paying close enough attention is a recipe for disaster. And can even result in a ticket. Keep at least one car length behind and stay safe.

Not having your headlights on

  • Only needing your headlights at night is a habit to break. When weather conditions are poor or you’re traveling at dusk, turn them on. It’s important to make your presence known when you’re on the roadway.

Not wearing a seatbelt

Click it or ticket. It’s pretty simple and it keeps you safe. According to NHTSA—at least 27 million Americans still don’t buckle up yet seatbelts saved almost 14,000 lives in 2015 alone. So do us a favor, buckle up.

Next, everything should be in proper working order. This counts for every feature from your head and tail lights, interior lighting, dash lights and such. Replace your windshield wipers and ensure the frames are not bent, rusting, etc. What about those filters? Have you replaced those recently…no? Then swap them out. And how is your heating system? Is it ready to go? Let’s give that a little attention! Brakes, tires, battery, should we go on?!

On to the fluids! It’s important to make sure that all of your fluid levels are properly filled and healthy. This is an easy task for our service team to complete so if you’re looking to have these taken care of in a moment’s notice, call our team and let us schedule an appointment for a time that fits into your busy schedule!

Lastly, accessorize for the season! It’s important to have a bag packed with essentials that you may need along the way. For example, pack a sweater, blanket, gloves, and hat during the winter months. Don’t forget an ice scraper, extra windshield washer fluid, and a small shovel. Always keep specific items you’ll need for the current season. In the event of an emergency, you might need these items.

You want them, we got them. This week we have four ways to help make your car sparkle and shine this September! Check out our tips below and when you’re ready, get outside and put them to good use before the temperatures drop below zero! And as always, if you need assistance from our team, be sure to reach out at your convenience. We look forward to working with you and we hope to see you soon!

Decontaminate with a clay bar. Our vehicles are often contaminated with things like tree sap, road debris, and iron filings that can hurt our paint and bond to the surface of the clear coat. While these things can’t be washed away, using a clay bar will get rid of these contaminants and give your vehicle a better clean.

Polish out those swirls. Regular washing combined with dirt, dust, road debris, and ice, can create a ‘spider-web’ appearance in your clear coat. Luckily, these are easy to remove with the right polish.

Protect and seal. A freshly polished vehicle will need a layer of protective wax to ensure the complete and total protection. Some waxes will give you a deeper shine but won’t last as long. So be careful which you are selecting especially if you live in cold climates. But either way, this protective barrier is super important in keeping your vehicle looking shiny and healthy!

Wash your vehicle regularly. It’s very important to keep your vehicle on a schedule for regular washes, especially in the fall and winter months when sand, ice, dirt, and more road debris are present. Be sure to spend a little extra and get your vehicle’s undercarriage washed as well. And be sure to wash your vehicle when temperatures are at their warmest in colder months to ensure that your windows and doors do not freeze.

Fall is quickly approaching which means it’s time to stop in and have your Ford serviced before those road and season conditions change for good. How can we help? Well, this week we have put together a list of things that you should be checking when it comes to fall service for your vehicle. All listed below, we encourage you to spend some time and familiarize yourself with these services. Once you’re ready, schedule a service appointment with our team today and let us know what we can do for you and your Ford this season! See you soon!

Change your oil and oil filter

  • Oil is your engine’s life blood – which means it’s very important to have clean, healthy oil in your vehicle at all times. If not, it will lead to issues down the road from accumulated contaminants that cause friction inside the engine. So, schedule your oil change and let our team give your vehicle the green light for this upcoming fall season!

How are your tires?

  • While we recommend checking your tires monthly, most people forget. And that’s alright – we’re here to help! While seasons change, our road conditions will change as well which makes it important to ensure that your tires are properly inflated and have proper tread. Also, don’t forget to check your spare tire as well.

Examine belts and hoses

  • We encourage you to inspect the hoses and belts in your engine bay. This is important to ensure that there are no cracks, bulges, or breaks in your hoses because this can lead to issues down the road like an overheating vehicle. Also, your timing belt is crucial to the operation of your engine. If your belt shows excessive wear, cracking, or material loss, it’s time to replace it.

Check on these items too

  • Wiper blades, your batter, and air filter. While we’re heading into a new season it’s important to be able to see when you’re out and about. If your wipers are streaky or show signs of wear and tear – replace them. It’s a great idea to have your battery check and ensure there is no corrosion around the terminals. And, your air filter should be changed every oil change, if it’s been a minute, swap it out!
